Our recent project in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, showcases the adaptability of Aalberts’ “Apollo” PowerPress® and Shurjoint systems in a unique mixed-use building. This development combines commercial units on the ground floor with five stories of residential units above, requiring an efficient hydronic system for both heating and cooling throughout the diverse spaces.

The primary challenge in this project was to develop and implement a mechanical system that could meet the diverse needs of both commercial and residential spaces within a single structure. This required a solution that could handle different pipe sizes, pressure requirements, and usage patterns while maintaining efficiency and reliability across all areas of the building.
solution
To address the complex requirements of this mixed-use development, we utilized a combination of approximately 550 “Apollo” PowerPress® and Shurjoint products. For piping 2″ and smaller, typically found in the residential units, we employed our “Apollo” PowerPress® system. This solution offers secure and efficient management of the building’s hydronic heating needs, featuring the innovative Leak Before Press® technology for enhanced safety and efficiency.
For the larger pipes of 2 ½” and above, predominantly used in the commercial spaces, we implemented our Shurjoint products. These provide the robust and reliable connections necessary for handling the higher volume requirements of commercial applications. The combination of these two systems allowed us to create a versatile and efficient piping network throughout the entire building.

The integration of “Apollo” PowerPress® and Shurjoint systems in the Maple Ridge project delivered significant advantages. Installation time and costs were substantially reduced due to the systems’ ease of use and minimal need for specialized tools. Safety and reliability were enhanced through features like the Leak Before Press® technology and strong Shurjoint couplings, ensuring a secure, long-lasting installation.
