From Metal to Valve: How Our South Carolina Foundries Support "Apollo"® Valve Performance

At Aalberts, our South Carolina foundries help support the quality, reliability, and performance behind “Apollo”® Valves. By pouring key metals and alloys in-house, we connect material production with machining, assembly, testing, packaging and distribution.
This vertically integrated manufacturing approach gives us greater control throughout the process and helps us support a wide range of plumbing, heating, commercial, industrial and specialty applications.
Why In-House Foundry Capabilities Matter
Valve materials can influence corrosion resistance, temperature performance, pressure capability, compliance and service life. Producing many of our own castings and alloys allows Aalberts IPS Americas to closely connect material selection, product design and finished valve performance.
It also gives us greater flexibility to support common cast alloys and evaluate additional material options when customer demand and application requirements call for them. From lead-free bronze and stainless steel to specialized alloys for aggressive environments, our foundry capabilities help us solve more application challenges.
Aalberts IPS Americas operates two foundries in South Carolina. Together, these facilities connect raw-material expertise with finished “Apollo”® Valves solutions made for reliable performance.

Our Myrtle Beach, SC Foundry operation pours steel, ferrous alloys and nickel alloys for demanding industrial and specialty applications. It also supports valve assembly.
In Pageland, our Bypass facility produces copper-based alloy castings and provides machining capabilities. Nearby, our Pearl Street operation supports assembly, testing, packaging and distribution.
Copper-Based Alloys for Bronze and Lead-Free Valves
Our Pageland foundry casts copper-based alloys used in both potable and non-potable applications. Common materials include:
- ASTM B584 C84400, also known as 81 Bronze
- ASTM B62 C83600, also known as 85-5-5-5 Bronze
- ASTM B584 C89836 lead-free bronze
These capabilities support “Apollo”® product families such as the 70-100, 77C-100-A, 82-100, 77W-A, 70LF, 82LF, 77WLF-A and 77WCLF-A Series.
"Apollo"® 70-100 Bronze Ball Valve
The “Apollo”® 70-100 is a widely used, general-purpose bronze ball valve. This two-piece, standard-port valve features female NPT connections and is cast and machined in Apollo’s South Carolina manufacturing facilities.
Its heavy-duty construction includes an adjustable stem packing gland, blowout-proof stem, RPTFE seats, MPTFE stem packing rings and a chromium-plated ball. Every valve is also 100% factory tested.
The 70-100 demonstrates how in-house casting, machining and testing come together to support dependable everyday performance.
"Apollo"® 70LF Lead-Free Ball Valve
The “Apollo”® 70LF Series builds on the proven design of the 70 Series with DZR lead-free materials for plumbing, heating and potable water applications.
Designed, manufactured and 100% factory tested in the USA, the 70LF Series includes EZ-Solder™ lead-free brass and bronze materials, RPTFE seats, a chromium-plated ball and distinctive lead-free identification.
Our ability to pour lead-free bronze directly supports valve solutions designed for today’s potable water systems.
Ferrous Alloys for Industrial Valve Applications
Our Myrtle Beach foundry supports a broad range of ferrous alloys, including:
- Cast iron and ductile iron
- 316 and 316L stainless steel
- Duplex and super duplex
- Alloy 20
- Cast caustic stainless steel
Among these materials, 316 stainless steel is widely used across chemical processing, food and beverage, pulp and paper, power generation, waterworks and general industry. It can support services involving water, steam, refrigerants, high temperatures and cryogenic conditions.
“Apollo”® product families supported by 316 stainless steel include the 76-500, 76-AR, 86B-100 and SS-B Series.
"Apollo"® 86B-100 Stainless Steel Ball Valve
The “Apollo”® 86B-100 is a three-piece, full-port stainless steel ball valve designed for durability, serviceability, and efficient flow.
Its swing-out center section helps simplify maintenance, while enclosed fasteners, a pressure-balanced solid ball, an anti-blowout stem and compression-controlled spiral-wound gaskets support reliable operation. Additional features include stainless steel trim and hardware, adjustable PTFE packing, ISO 5211 mounting and optional API 607 fire-safe construction.
It is a strong example of how stainless steel foundry capabilities support demanding valve applications.
Specialized Alloys for Corrosive Environments
Some applications require more than standard materials. Our alloy portfolio helps support customers facing challenging chemicals, acids, brine, marine exposure and other corrosive conditions.
Alloy 20 was originally developed for sulfuric acid service and is commonly used in wastewater treatment, chemical processing, waterworks and pulp and paper applications. It also offers strong resistance to stress corrosion cracking compared with many conventional stainless alloys.
Hastelloy C is another standout option when corrosion resistance is critical. While no material is ideal for every service, Hastelloy C is often used in chlorine, caustic, brine, acid, hydrofluoric acid, marine and aggressive chemical environments.
"Apollo"® Top Entry Ball Valves for Demanding Applications
“Apollo”® Top Entry Ball Valves provide a flexible, service-friendly platform for challenging applications. They offer a broad selection of body, trim and seal materials, along with configurable features that expand their usable application range.
In Hastelloy C and other advanced material configurations, these valves can help address wear, cold flow, temperature changes and pressure fluctuations. Supported series include the 86H-300, 87H-600 and HH-D.
For systems where corrosion, temperature, pressure or material compatibility creates a challenge, “Apollo”® Top Entry Ball Valves provide a customizable problem-solving solution.
