revolutionizing travel comfort: "Apollo" Valves' vital role in Chicago O’Hare International Airport Terminal 5 upgrade

  • location: Chicago, Illinois
  • completion date: January 2023
  • vertical market: general buildings

Our recent collaboration with Autumn Construction Services at Chicago O’Hare International Airport showcases the critical role of “Apollo” Valves in enhancing passenger comfort and operational efficiency. The “ORD Terminal 5 Miscellaneous Mechanical Upgrades” project, part of the broader ORD 21 Terminal 5 Expansion and Modernization program, highlights the versatility and reliability of our products in a high-stakes, complex environment.

challenge

The primary challenge of this project was to meticulously itemize and replace mechanical equipment within the busy Terminal 5 at O’Hare, all within a tight 20-month schedule. The project required minimizing disruptions to passengers and airport operations while upgrading critical systems across terminal and concourse hold rooms, gate areas, airline operational zones, and concessions spaces. Precision and innovation were key to executing the project successfully.

solution

Autumn Construction Services, in collaboration with “Apollo” Valves, undertook the task of replacing over 350 existing Variable Air Volume (VAV) boxes, along with piping and controls. Our VAV boxes ensured optimal airflow control and temperature regulation throughout the terminal.

Additionally, Autumn Construction Services replaced existing gate valves with “Apollo” Valves on the new VAV boxes, 145 cabinet/unit heaters, 65 four-pipe fan coils, and 30 inline booster pumps. In total, over 2,100 “Apollo” Valves were installed, demonstrating the versatility and reliability of our products in a large-scale, high-demand environment.
